I was 2 years old when the Andy Griffith Show first aired on Oct. 3, 1960. My first remembrances of the show are from when I was 5 or 6. I think being from a small town in northeast Tennessee made the show seem comfortable to me. I actually knew people like the inhabitants of that little North Carolina town. Sometimes I wished I could move there and spend time with my best friend Opie skipping rocks on Meyers Lake, eating some of Aunt Bee’s fried chicken or riding with Barney with the siren on through the streets of town. But I found out, much to my disappointment, that Mayberry was a fictitious town that only existed on my TV set for 30 minutes every week.

As I grew older, the show remained a big part of my life and is so to this day. When things get a little hectic or I get stressed out, I can always go back to Mayberry. It wasn’t until years later that I realized I wasn’t alone, that there were others like me who loved that little town and longed for that way of life and the values portrayed there.

Every year I travel around the country to various events celebrating this wonderful show. During these travels I have met some of the most special and interesting people. People whom I probably would never had met if it wasn’t for our mutual love and respect for the Andy Griffith Show. I have also been lucky enough to have met many of the performers, writers and directors who brought Mayberry to life.

This site is my attempt to bring some of the happiness I’ve experienced to those of you who can’t get away to any of the “official” Mayberry gathering spots. Maybe after your visit to the “Emporium” you may decide to attend one of these special events. We’d love to have you and I promise you won’t be disappointed.
